Saying Goodbye to Floral Foam: A Step Toward Sustainability

At Solent Stems, our mission has always been to bring beauty into your life—whether through stunning floral arrangements or unique farewell flowers—while staying mindful of our planet. That’s why we’ve made an important change: we will no longer offer products that use floral foam from June 2025

Why We're Making the Change

Floral foam has long been a staple in flower arranging. It’s lightweight, easy to shape, and holds water well, helping flowers stay fresh and in place. But what many don’t realise is that floral foam is a single-use plastic that breaks down into microplastics, posing serious risks to waterways and wildlife. It’s non-biodegradable and contains chemicals that can harm both the environment and the people handling it regularly.

As awareness of these issues has grown, so has the movement within the floral industry to seek more sustainable options. And we’re proud to be part of that shift.

Our Eco-Friendly Alternatives

We're already embracing greener methods that are just as effective and far kinder to the earth. From reusable flower frogs(floral pins)and chicken wire to natural supports like twigs and moss, there are plenty of innovative ways to create beautiful arrangements without compromising our values.

We’re also working with our growers and suppliers to ensure every step of our process reflects our environmental responsibility—from field to vase, including our very own seasonal cut flowers!

What This Means for You

You’ll still get the same quality, creativity, and care you’ve come to expect from us—just without the floral foam. You can feel good knowing it was made with both beauty and the planet in mind. We have just tweaked how we put together our designs, which means a u turn to pre 50's when floral foam was introduced.

It does mean that some of our products are no longer available in the guise that you know, like floral letters.
