Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Funeral Flowers in Gosport Hampshire

During the UK growing season from May to October we use our own and other locally grown flowers and foliage. In Winter our funeral arrangements may include both dried and fresh flowers, including flowers sourced from commercial growers based in other parts of the UK and abroad.

At Solent Stems we understand the importance of honouring loved ones while respecting the natural world. Our eco-friendly and sustainable funeral flowers are thoughtfully designed for natural burial sites and those who cherish gardening and nature.

Using locally sourced foliages and our own seasonally grown flowers along with compostable materials, we create arrangements that celebrate life and seamlessly return to the earth.

Whether you prefer a simple handtied sheaf or a stunning mossed wreath, our creations offer a meaningful tribute that aligns with your values and preserves the beauty of our planet for future generations.

By using natural materials like willow, jute, raffia, moss and agra wool alternatives, we create arrangements that celebrate and respect our environment.

The designs are more natural in appearance and movement but nonetheless beautiful.

The difference between biodegradable and compostable.

A biodegradable product will eventually break down under the right environmental conditions. However, many biodegradable products do contain plastics.

There may be plastic in the paper coffee cup, it will eventually break down but sadly so,e microplastic residue is left behind.

The composting process takes places far more quickly and all suitable material will turn into organic matter or humus and no micro plastics. If you have ever placed anything into a home compost bin one days it is full to the brim and a few days later it has moved sown the bin.

Everything that is compostable is also biodegradable…. But biodegradable does not necessarily mean compostable. 🌳

We should where possible consider alternatives to floral foam and single use plastics especially when it comes to our choice of flowers for funerals.

The funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II lead the way and opened the conversation on sustainable farewell flowers. The floral arrangements were elegant and humble. Chosen by King Charles III, the flowers were gathered from the gardens of the royal residences at Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Highgrove House.

These included rosemary for rememberance, myrtle, English oak, garden roses, pelargoniums, hydrangea, dahlias, scabious and sedum in shades of gold, pink, deep burgundy with touches of white to reflect the Royal Standard.
